Video of the guys we took in from Bulgaria
This is a Youtube video of the Bulgarian boys we took in last summer. Koko knocked on our door trying to sell us reference books. When I hugged Koko (the shorter one) he teared up and said I was the first person in America to hug him. He told me that he missed the warmth of his country. I closed the door, and just stared at my husband for a long time. Stan grinned and asked, "Where do you want to put them?" I sent the kids running down the street to beckon Koko back. He and his teammate Yavor moved in two weeks later. Our poor neighbors! We had only just moved in and a couple of them were skeptical of what kind of freaks had moved into the neighborhood and invited strangers in!
It was the greatest experience of our lives. We are signed up to take in more of these international college students this summer. I can't wait! I don't know who they are, where they're from or if they are male or female. But I am already excited about meeting them and cooking their country's meals. (In case you're wondering, Bulgarian food sucks.) But that's alright. The boys loved it and got home late the night I cooked for them so they don't know I threw the Bulgarian meal in the garbage. :)
I really miss Yavor and Koko. I'm glad they stay in touch. Koko and I had many a debate over the existence of God and how he thought religion was for old people. I'm glad my oldest son is so liberal because he was actually able to help me see how overzealous I could be. I chilled out and learned a lot from these kids and a lot about myself.
Enjoy the video. The brief bedroom clip is Yavor in our basement (messy guy!) and the kid pretending to hit Koko in our breakfast room is my son T.J. Then at the end my daughter leaps into the video before it ends.
